Final Website

Mrs. Andersen's Website

I absolutely LOVED creating this website.  I loved the idea of taking something to was foreign to me 6 months ago and getting such a wonderful product out of it in the end.  I cannot wait to begin using this website with my students and my parents.  I felt that this activity of creating a website was extremely useful for the main reason of, it made me think and compute for myself.  I was able to take a blank computer canvas and turn it into a Mosaic Website masterpiece and I can truly say I am proud of it. Enjoy!

Video Slide Show

I would love to use this activity with pictures of students completing certain projects as a way to introduce the project to the next set of students the following year as a way to get them excited about the next activity.  I do however, like Photostory I think better for the idea of a video montage because it allows you to do more with the pictures as far as editing.  Windows Movie Maker was a lot quicker than photostory was when it came to compiling the finished
project together.

Wundergroud Spreadsheet and Graph

This site was hard to navigate through at first, but then was easy to use once you got used to it.  I liked the idea of being able to check not only current weather, but the past weather conditions.  I'm no necessarily sure of how I could incorporate this into my reading classes as of yet, but this is definitely a site I want to share with my science teacher colleagues at work.

Web Scavenger Hunt

Discovery Education Puzzle Maker:
Figurative Language Review Crossword Puzzle

Watsons Go To Birmingham WebQuest

I use this web quest in my room before we begin reading a novel.  It sparks the students' interest and gets them excited about the novel.  I like the idea of having the puzzle be the answers to the Webquest.  I had never thought of doing that before.

YouTube Video Clips

Top Movie Clips of All Time

I loved this activity and would love to do this in my class with my students with book that have been turned into movies.  They can compile a set of movie clips that were all once books. They can even record themselves and create their own videos for different projects that we could be working in class.  I had a lot of fun creating this and I hope you enjoy it!

Mapping America Activity

One of my content standards is to teach students how to read and interpret graphs and maps.  This census data would be an excellent tool for me to use with my students.  I actually plan on using my actual worksheet I created with my students.

The Death of Abraham Lincoln Slideshow

This activity would work well as an introductory to a new concept.  Personally, I think I could use this in my classroom in place of a current paper-based timeline activity that I already do with my students.  Normally they retrieve paper research on an assigned event during the Civil Rights Movement.  They then bring in paper research and write a short summary about their event.  The group then gets together to combine their written portions on a time line.  I could do that same concept, but "paperless" by having them create slide shows instead.  They would then have the ability to upload pictures to the slide show and the overall finished project would be much better than my original.

Effect 4

I could use this idea when teaching my Civil Rights unit that goes with one of our novels we read throughout the year.  One standard we discuss is tone and mood.  Students can analyze the tone of the original photgraph and explain thier mood they get while viewing it.  Then either I could, or the students could add certain effects to the picture to create a different tone or mood.  For example, the original photo creates a tone of seriousness and despair. However, when you add the effect (see the last photo), it creates a tone of hope and create an insirational mood that promotes change.

Wikipedia Comparison

Wikipeida Contributions Pages:

I searched Miniature Schnauzer in both Britannica and Wikipedia.  I found that with Wikipedia they had separate entries for all types of schnauzers (miniature, standard and giant).  On the Britannica entry, there was just one entry for all three.  I also discovered that the Wikipedia sight had a lot more information relating to heath, grooming details, and activities that the schnauzer enjoys.  The Britannica sight did not seem as detailed as the Wikipedia site.  However, it still makes me a little uneasy with the fact that anyone can contribute to the pages without any notion of relevance or validity.  I did not disagree with the information that I read about on wikipedia, but I am not knowledgeable enough on the subject to be able to determine the difference.  Using this as a reference resource in my classroom may or may not work, depending on the validity of the information the students are searching.
